IPL / Skin Rejuvenation Treatments in Northern Ireland

IPL (Intense Pulse Light) Photorejuvenation can treat a variety of benign skin conditions. The broad spectrum of light is used in IPL Photorejuvenation treatments is absorbed by the target tissue, and is then removed by the body’s natural processes, providing dramatic improvments in the appearance of age spots, sun spots, sun damage, freckles, rosacea and more.

IPL provides many benefits for the skin including:

  • The reduction of hyperpigmentation and facial flushing
  • Decreases inflammation
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Stimulates fibroblasts which will trigger collagen, elastin and cell turnover
  • Oxygenates bacteria for acne skin types

Is IPL right for you?

IPL Photorejuvenation may be the ideal treatment option for you if you:

  • want to improve the appearance of redness and rosacea
  • want to improve the appearance of brown pigmentation and age spots
  • want a procedure that has very minimal down time

Intense pulsed light is emitted from the machine and transfers into heat energy in the skin. While the skins tissues absorb light, the light energy emitted will stimulate the underlying cells. The treatment causes the cells to break down enough so they can be reabsorbed by the body. During treatment the pulses of light penetrate the tissue and the light is absorbed superficially by broken capillaries and sun induced pigmentation or is absorbed at deeper levels by larger vessels and collagen causing trauma to the skin. This causes a healing response where fibroblasts are stimulated and new collagen is produced, which will replace broken down collagen fibres and in turn will give the skin a plumper appearance. It works by stimulating minor injuries, encouraging the skin to renew itself and improve its appearance.

For the treatment of pigmentation, the target being melanin, breaks down to improve and lighten the complexion. Uneven blotchy redness and capillaries uses a different target and is absorbed by the red blood cells, specifically haemoglobin, which damages the blood vessel walls, making them less visible.

Wound healing is a process post treatment (after injury) where the skin repairs itself. When the skins protective barrier is disrupted the process of wound healing starts. This can take several weeks for the skin to achieve results from the treatment and healing process must be fully complete before proceeding with following treatment.
